My furnace
Jun. 12th, 2007 11:02 amIt's all in and the bill has been paid. I had 4 bids and orginally I thought I wanted the highest efficiency furnance and AC that money could buy. Then one of the guys told me about heat pumps and I was interested in that but then after I got some more information on it, decided it probably wouldn't be the best for me. The guy that did the quote that lived in my neighborhood (whom a friend of mine recommended) said that right now all the really high efficfiency furnaces have so many parts to them that can be hard to find that he is still recommending the "basic" HE furnaces. The one he quoted me at is 92.5% and is still eligible for the rebate through my gas company and tax refunds too.
He installed the furnace/ac on Friday and it took all day. I think after lunch, I asked about installing a vent in the bathroom (it didn't have one) and he said he could get done with the help of an electrician and after asking him how much, I told him to do it. The elelctrician came on his way home and I think I wrote him a check for $147 for his part. The furnace guy left probably near 7pm so he was here minus parts and lunch run since 8am. The house didn't really cool down and he came back the next day (Saturday) to test everything to make sure it was running correctly and good thing since the new ac's coil wasn't working right. He ran and got us a window ac unit and installed it through the basement door. On Monday he came back with a new coil and installed it and then stopped by Monday when I got home from work to pick up his check. He didn't charge me any extra for all of his running around or the vent installation. I am very pleased. I've got to look into getting the work done for the rebate from the gas company.
The ac unit was a 9 seer and now I've got a 13 seer rated one, it will be more efficient but not as much as they've got out there right now. It's good enough for me and I'm SO excited that I can turn on the vent in the bathroom and not worry that the mirror fogs up when I'm just out of the shower.
