Oct. 13th, 2010 08:43 pmI've been watching bits and pieces of the Chilean Mine rescue and perhaps it's because I'm just getting over that monthly woman thing, but it sure gets me even if I can't understand anything they say....except que pasa? and the numbers up to 10.
It could be that I'm old enough to recognize the history making(no one in recorded history has survived this long underground).... I wish I understood what they were saying. I was able to see the 2nd Miner come out and he was obviously so happy to rescued. It was so life affirming.
From what I observed I am impressed that the president (and others) stood vigil the entire time and greeted each miner as they came up. I am impressed that the effort was made and I feel the pride these people feel for their country, their occupation, their coworkers and their families. Obviously everyone is going to be riding on that great feeling for a while and I recognize that there may be long term negative affects on these miners.
Estimates of the rescue efforts numbered over $22 million and that amazes me. Some of this coming from the drilling of three rescue holes at the same time to try to get to the trapped miners as quickly as possible. Obviously they miners needed to be rescued and there is costs to that, I'm not sure that I could wrap my head around being someone who cost my country that amount of money...not that they had anything to do with all of that. Not that you couldn't not rescue these miners...
All efforts of so many people that came together to help the success of this mission is mind-blowing. There is apparently a commitment of at least 6 months of care for the miners to provide services to them to help re-adjust.
It is certainly a time for celebration!
