Holiday trip

Friday night or Saturday we will be leaving Minnesota driving to Chicago for a few days. We're going to try to see some live jazz, go to the art museum, the original UNO pizza place and perhaps the aquarium. We're also going to check out the miracle mile probably mostly window shopping. We haven't figured out if we're staying 2 or 3 nights. Afterwards we're driving to see my sister in Indianapolis. We'll stay there until the 28th (she's preaching on that day) then drive straight home. Cross your fingers that the roads will be good on the drive home.

Suggestions of what to do in Chicago? or Indianapolis?

Thanks....

ou've already hit my big thing to do in Chicago - the Art Museum. I also like the Planetarium.

I will definitely cross my fingers for a good drive. At least you won't be driving out in the middle of nowhere...94/90 is pretty well populated and will be well-taken care of. (Says the girl who used to drive to Chicago from Iowa, all on back roads to avoid the interstate and tolls!)

Keep those fingers crossed!

hey, what happened to your "Y"? hee hee!

Chicago is almost ridiculous in things to do. The Museum of Science and Industry, the Museum of Natural History (next to the Aquarium and Soldier Field). It might even be more efficient to find a tour.

As for Indianapolis, this is a cool museum of Native American history that I've been to: http://www.10best.com/Indianapolis,IN/Attractions_&_Activities/Best_Attractions_&_Activities/1872/Eiteljorg_Museum_of_American_Indians_and_Western_Art_Indianapolis_IN/. The site itself has lots of ideas.

There are several art museums. This is a Chicago Tradition http://www.msichicago.org/whats-here/exhibits/christmas-around-the-world/
And The International Museum of Surgical Science is a good one.

"The CTA Visitor’s Pass can be purchased in the card machine available in the airport. I was coming in to O’Hare. Or, you can purchase it in the Cultural Center downtown. Do keep in mind to feed the machine exact cash. It does not give change. The Pass is available for one-day, 3-day, or 5-day worth of travel. They cost from $5 to $18." yanked from a travelers blog. I did not know how much they cost. Each bus costs $2. No transfers! So this is the cheapest way to get around in Chicago.

Here is a good web site for getting around, finding what buses go where and when. http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/

The Village of Oak Park has the Earnest Hemingway museum as well as the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio. There is a free shuttle that goes from the "green line" L and the local sites here in town. The Harlen stop has an elevator the Oak Park Ave does not. It is a nice ride. There are tons of awesome houses here.

I had to not only boost Chicago but the town that I live in. LOL
Transportation is rough but it can happen. Quite confusing! But with the correct resources and tools it can be manageable. Good luck and enjoy!

I live near Indy...here's what NOT to do. Do NOT go to Zane's (or maybe it's Zoey's *Shrug*) Closet. It's a bar that used to be called "Illusions". It sucks!

If you love pizza, there is a fabulous pizza place with 3 locations in the Indy area called Bazbeauxs and their pizza rawks all kinds of delish. There is one in Broad Ripple and one downtown on Mass Avenue. Either one equals yum.

Monument Circle is really pretty right now with all the sparkly lights. They have horse drawn carriage rides. Might be a possibility.

Have a great time!

aaahhh, I looked it up, it's "Zonie's Closet‎"

I heard about the Circle from a friend of mine. Sounds really nice.

Thanks!

it's awesome. not huge-- very manageable to get through in a couple/few hours.

I love that as well! It is amazing!
