Finally, a Consumer Reports study confirms what I’ve unfortunately known all along: There are plenty of fake “free” credit report web sites out there. They cropped up as soon as our right to a free credit report each year from each of the three credit bureaus became law.

The only place for your truly free credit report is: www.annualcreditreport.com.
But I’ve heard from scores of people over the years who somehow ended up at a suspiciously similar named site and prompted to buy something or pay a fee.
