And yeah, I feel ya on the weirdness. I don't even like the town where my mom lives (and I grew up) and the house is a whole lot less awesome than your mom's, but there's still a whole lotta my life and memories that happened there. I'm glad my mom is moving and will be happier with the new place, and I really look forward to visiting her there, but I feel a bit weird and even a very little bit sad about not visiting the old house any more.
I totally get that and my son is really aware of his loss...I'm not so much and I wonder if that will change. Perhaps it relates to where I am in my life which is ready to move forward and make some change.
The house was on nearly 10 acres of woods with a creek in the back...I don't think I appreciated it enough growing up but it sure kept me grounded in my love of trees!
My Mom moved out of my parents' house 2 1/2 years ago (about two years after my Dad died). She still owns it and rents it out. Still kind of weird to visit her in a different house.
