This weekend was pride. It was also a weekend after AF left for a week with his Aunt. It will be weird with two whole weeks without him broken up with a couple of days between there.

I'm taking the day off from working because I need to complete a few things for my last class and work on a few other things for my next one.

Pride was okay, I volunteered in a couple of booths on Saturday and went to Dyke night. Toshi Reagon was really good. She has an amazing voice and wonderful ability to handle anything that comes her way. This was evident, because during the chatter between songs, a woman spoke up and starting talking about vegans and how Minnesota is full of Nazi's and etc. It was pretty weird. The woman did get up and walk out before Toshi had to have her escourted out. She did it in a way that focused on the fact that there is a time and place for everything (and she had the mic tonight) versus dealing with her message.

Sunday was the parade. I went despite the rain. I really wanted to fly by the seat of my pants that day. I went to find a couple of my friends(never did). I could have run into RD, TK, TS, AT or J but didn't.

I did run into D from LJ, which was weird. I totally recognized her from her pic, because of her eyes. Yeah, so impulsively I said hello....but because I didn't know what else to say..I felt like a dork.

Later heard, Ellis who's a wonderful local singer/songwriter. I've heard her song "Freedom" which is a really great song from a peace compilation. She sang song and it made me really happy because I could sing along. I ended up buying one of her CD's because one of the songs.

Gosh this was a long post...and I suspect, I should get to my homework.

That was weird, but it was good to meet you! I felt like a dork too, because I wasn't expecting it but it was very cool. I don't normally just stand around like an idiot when I meet someone. Well, that's not actually completely true because I'm awful with small talk and am painfully shy unless I'm very comfortable with someone, so, yeah, hello, babbling. :)

Either way, I'm glad you had a good time at Pride and I'm glad you said hello.

LOL, yeah, I can totally agree with the inability to do small talk. I have a tendency of not being able to do it either. I tell people I know that I'm shy...and they don't believe me. I'm sure it's because I'm already comfortable with them and therefore can talk. I also have the tendency to talk about really deep stuff more so than frivolous stuff.

You have very distinctive eyes...that's what I recognized.

Happy Pride!

Ellis

Ooh, I love Ellis. I saw her in Madison, performing (Freedom, among others). Doesn't that song just amaze you? There is something about Ellis that absolutely enthralled me. She is so cute for one thing, but her voice is awesome as well. She's got that tough-with-a-heart-of-pur-gold vibe. And that song. I've got to go get the CD from my car right now (It is called Amaze Me: Songs in the Key of Peace, it is a compilation of peace songs by women, very good stuff)!!!

It is fun to fly by the seat of your pants on a big day, sounds like you did okay!

Yeah, I've got that same CD. I REALLY like that song. I saw Ellis a couple of years ago and felt that she had amazing stage presence. This time that didn't stick out at me as much. I did pick up one of her CD's (Blueprint Live) and it's almost too powerful to listen while I sit here doing my homework. Yesterday, I even had to turn it off because I had a deadline. I've got a deadline today too...but I'm sitting here doing my email. Oh well! Happy Pride!
