It's been a little cold but not too much snow, unlike the rest of the middle US. I'm not quite ready for it. I also worry a little about how this new little and light weight car will do in the snow and ice.

I really feel the need to get moving on my holiday shopping. I did actually order a couple of things for my Dad. They're banana related. He had an ongoing joke with his brother about bananas. One is a book on the history and impact of bananas. I also picked up a set of Andy Warhol banana bowls.

Hmmm...not much exciting happening today. I found a really fun website that has the nature sounds of California here

I've got to start Christmas shopping soon, I hate doing that. Anyone have any unique ideas? Or what's your favorite websites for interesting gifts?

My holiday

cut for length )

Anyway, Monday was a day for sleeping in, catching up, breathing and taking it easy. I've got to get P to her car as she has to work tonight. I also want to look for a nice outfit for the New Year's Gala in a couple of weeks. I never have enough time!

I hope you all had a great holiday!

good news?

So I've been offered a full time but fixed term position (benefits!) at one of the colleges that I currently work at. I'm really excited to have the position but it sure makes me nervous come the end of the term (it's only spring semester). I'm going to have to quit working at my public library, I will be at least becoming a sub at the library. It will be nice not having to work late 3 nights+ a week. I know that I'll be working some nights at the college but not the same frequency.

I'm nervous about taking this because I always plan for worse case scenarios and by quitting the public library, once I complete my term at the college, potentially I'll be living off of my savings and child support. Granted, I have savings that would likely last me 6 months or more in a worse case scenario, I just don't like the feeling. I also know that they are undergoing a lot of reorganization and it would look very good for me to obtain a full time more perm position.

Last night, I thought I'd have to work my regular shift (until 9pm) but the library closed early so I was home by 5:30 or so. I dropped off some little somethings to the public library ladies (customary to give token gifts). I had previously purchased some beverages from mexico for them, something a little different for them to try. Home to make dinner (spaghetti, broccali, garlic bread) and then off for some shopping. We should have decorated the tree but I guess that will have to wait until another time. When ? Maybe Christmas eve? I've also got to get my Christmas letters off before the postage goes up!

Sunday was church(T was in better spirits thankfully), coffee with the gang in my town. A few folks showed up and had good conversation. P and I were able to have something to eat, yum. Our goal was to get the tree up, but it just never happened. We ran out of time. I did get the living room cleaned up a little more and vacuumed. It's just a matter of time now.

Monday was job interview, liked the idea of the job, lots of variety...there's the commute and what's the pay? Who knows, she said she'd like to make a decision by the end of the week. Home to laundry and other misc things. I've got to get caught up on balancing my checkbook and getting this months bills sent out. Happily, I was able to purchase P's gift and I can't wait to give it to her. It's something I'm inspired to do, I hope she likes the gift. Monday night work it was so slow. A's present (bass guitar) was delivered and I wasn't sure if I should bring it home or not. I'm glad I didn't because despite my instructions to him NOT to go into my room, he was in there. I'm sure he saw some of the gifts but only the boring ones like new pjs, a new shirt and his very own set of fingernail clippers so he'll quit taking mine!

P came over earlier than I expected, we talked a little before going to sleep but then woke up almost 2 hours before her alarm was suppose to go off and she still ended up late for work. How is it that I wake up at 2:30am and I'm almost late for work too? I didn't have to be there until 9am!

The boy got his braces off finally! He's got to go back next week for his retainer. We also have to go to the other location because they couldn't fit us in on my open days. This is important to me because I don't have sick time or vacation time and if I don't work, I don't get paid. It should all work out though.

Yesterday I put in an application for a job. They have already called me back, I called them but they were unavailable. I hope they are able to call me before I go to work.

I'm slowly but surely starting my christmas shopping. I think I'll do some more on Saturday but I've got to figure out what I'm going to get. I've got to shop for my dad, sister and other assorted people including a few things for dear son. I did order him a bass guitar like he wanted. I had to call up his dad and tell him that's what I got him so that he doesn't buy the same thing. Now my sis indicated she'd like to help him out with lessons.

I want to nap but I sure don't want above mentioned job folks to call me if I'm sleeping. Of course, theirs plenty for me to do, like empty stuff...dishwasher, cat box, clothes washer, many things to do and so little time.

I've got to remember to leave early enough for work to pick up a latte at Caribou, Thanks D from UST!
